I’ve been toying with the idea of the Longchamp Le Pliage tote for quite a while now. Yes I know its overdone and that every young girl out there is toting her Les Pliages like it was a school bag.
But I’m drawn to it anyway 😛
Perhaps I like the many colours they come in (although this time I’m drawn to the humble black version – very NOT me :P) or the different sizes they come in, or perhaps the fact that it is foldable and that it holds a ton without being heavy.
I’m NOT quite liking the fact that its nylon on the body although I’ve read that its a very hardy nylon that doesn’t get furry, tear or spoil that easily.
I own a nylon tote from Herve Chapelier which I travelled with with absolutely no problems and it didn’t get too dirty despite it being a light colour so really, I have no cause to worry.
That said, I stopped by the Longchamp boutique in The Gardens last week just to take a look again at the Les Pliage (brown leather on colored nylon body) and Planètes (leather color matches the nylon body and is not foldable – black tote in picture) but the selection of colours here is quite poor so I might take another look the next time I go to Singapore (they seemed to have a better colour selection). Or maybe I’d just think about it again the next time I’m at duty free somewhere – I always see Longchamp sold at airports 🙂
On another note, I’m quite impressed by the quality of the Longchamp leather bags. They are understated, aren’t too heavy and aren’t crazy expensive. With the sales now on, they are actually affordable for a good leather bag!
But coming back to the Les Pliage and Planètes totes – if you own one, I’d love to hear from you how it holds up to wear and how you like it 🙂 No better way to find out how a bag performs than to find out from an owner! 🙂

I am writing from London and all I can say is – every girl here in London Town either owns one or three! They are the most useful bag a girl can have!
At first, I wasn’t too keen – not sure whether it’s durable and I didn’t want to be too common… but after some research, I bought one during the summer sale last year. I bought the summer blue, the second size from small with the long strap. I was told the long straps are much more popular and hence would go out of sale quite quickly. I loved it so much that when I went to Andorra for a snowboarding trip, I took a bus ride into town and bought two hand luggage size bags (I couldn’t decide which colour so I bought a bright pink one and a grey one!). For those who are considering getting one – JUST DO IT!

Is it really that cheap in Europe? How about the taxes bringing in from EU? I got mine from Korea duty free… Long handled, large, and it’s USD129. How about USA then? My family is going soon, thought of asking them to get more from there… if it’s cheaper :p but heard too hong kong is selling at lowest rate.. .wonder which is which 🙂

Hi EY
A friend of mine bought the long handle, medium sized one for about 1000 hkds… that’s quite expensive compared to London. I do think it’s actually cheaper in Europe.
While I was in NY last year, I was at the Woodbury Common outlet and they are not that much cheaper (bearing in mind I was at an outlet) and not much variety. They actually sold out on the long handle bags because it was so popular.
In London, some shops do have summer colours (i.e. blue/pink/white) and they go on sale later on in the year… It works out to be roughly $68 for the second to medium size to the medium size one for $90 USD when discounted.

just got one myself yesterday. got it cos i noticed people carrying it everywhere and i dont get hooked to a bag easily (am quite choosy), but i loved that bag the first time i saw it. it’s roomy, it’s casual yet elegant (simple no-nonsense design). it’s light and cute.
problem is, too many colours to choose from. even now, i’m thinking of changing it to another colour (can i do that?).
i dont mind carrying the same thing as others, cos that’s just the way i am. i always go for practicality and what i like:) that being said, i dont mind if all the ladies in the LRT are carrying the same bag! haha
just go for it.

Hi
late into this but purchased my first yesterday in john lewis Cambridge. Never was that struck on them but fell for it recently and took the plunge! The sagginess and dogging for stuff doesn’t bother me but it’s the wear and tear on the corners that does! I feel a bit reluctant to use it in case it happens so quickly! I wanted to use it daily.
Any feedback on that?
Cheers

I just got my first Le Pilage in the mail last week. I go the large with long handles in Billberry. First of all, the color is fabulous, a deep eggplant – my favorite color. I took it out on the boat with me over th weekend and it held up great. I also like how much it fits. I work full-time and go to law school and I can put my text book, laptop, and work files in it, carry it around and it surprisingly never feels heavy. The only negative is that it doesn’t have pockets. Otherwise, well worth the money!

Did you end up purchasing it? If so, how do you like it?

Honestly, I find Le Pliage totes rather ugly. I know that the appeal is in the fact that they’re foldable and durable, but for that much money I’d much rather buy a bag that’s just as good-looking as it is practical. Plus, there are a million knockoffs of the Le Pliage, and it’s impossible to tell the fakie from the real thing because they’re equally ugly. 😛

Hey, I’m an owner of the small short handle le pliage for almost a year. It pretty much holds all my stuffs & to tell u the truth, I don’t really keep all my bags well. Yea I know, it cost me over 100bucks here in sg but yea, I did just that. The bag still looks as good as ever! 😀
& I’ve been contemplating between the short handle medium or long handle large (just so u know the sizes can cater to more stuffs in it). & I ended up asking my cousin to get me 1 yesterday cause she’s in Paris. (: can’t wait to be the new owner of my le pliage large long handle!
My take is that u should really get 1 from Paris/London cause it’s much much cheaper there.
FYI, my long handle large le pliage only cost me 66euros which is equivalent to about $121! It’s effing cheap! 😀

Love this discussion! I’m thinking of getting the small, long handle Le Pliage, because I feel like the regular tote might be a bit big for my frame and my stuff might swim around in it like a lot of people have said. Organizer is such a great idea though, I’m getting one!
Anyone bought the small or have any thoughts on it?

Went to Paris last autumn and got the smallest size one for 50 Euros only. I personally still think it’s expensive(student) because of such simple design and yeah, pretty common nowadays. But undeniable it’s really convenient and handy. The flap is sometimes getting in the way but that’s what makes the design. 🙂

I had one which is Le Pliage in black. A Xmas present from my boss, which initially I asked her to get it for me from Europe which is much cheaper than Indonesia. I was surprised that it was a gift instead and I was super happy about it! I love this bag, which I use it daily to work for my job do not require format attire. Since I’m taking the public transport like the bus and it’s the raining season now, this bag is waterproof, really I mean, outside part was totally wet, but the inside it’s super dry. It dries quickly after that for the outer part, including the leather part. I love this bag so much that I call it my forever waterproof yet stylish bag! 🙂
