I had a case of dry lip the other day at the office, and while rummaging through my makeup pouch, realized I had no lipbalm on me. I should not have been surprised really. I hardly ever use lipbalm but I used to have a stick kept in there for emergencies.
I eventually made do with a Dior Serum de Rouge lipstick (helped remoisten lips – amazing stuff!) and I could not help sharing that observation on the MWS Facebook page.
A reader then asked if I used lipbalm everyday to which my answer was no.
I probably belong in the minority but my use of lipbalm or any lip treatment is only at night before bed. That’s when I slather on Lucas’ Papaw Ointment or a lipbalm like MyLipStuff to protect my lips from the drying effects of the air-conditioner.
In the day, I don’t have balm on. I know tinted lipbalm is quite the rage, but I have this thing against tinted lipbalm. When I used to use tinted lipbalm (I loved the one from LipIce) I found that I’d have to reapply and with every layer you put on, the colour gets brighter and brighter and it was always an unattractive fuchsia. Since then, I’ve steered clear of tinted balms. Not to say I won’t try them. They just aren’t a preference.
I don’t even use balm under my lipsticks, or if I do, its rarely. If its a drying lipstick, I just don’t use it. Its just one of those things that are a personal preference.
Your say: Do you apply lipbalm everyday? And if you do, what’s your lipbalm of choice?

I can’t live without my lipbalm (exaggerate much?) heheh.. if I dont have my lipbalm, I have to drink a lot of water and end up going back and forth to the loo. so, i need my lipbalm, i have 2 of them, one in my handbag and another one in my pencil case (I’m a student).
I have been using Eucerin Lip Aktiv for almost 4 years now, as i found out that neutrogena, lip ice & avon didn’t work well for me. 🙁

Hi Paris,
I’ve been searching this topic because of my endless battle with dry lips. I just HAD to put lipbalm before lipstick or it will getting worse. I’m currently using Guerlain Kiss Kiss and the colour just won’t show up until 10 swipes ! Does Guerlain lipstick quite sheer ? Although it seems I have to blame the LipIce Mentholatum for this case…

Hi Dian, have you tried it without the lipbalm? There is a range of Kiss Kiss lipsticks that is sheer. I believe it’s in a silver tube but it may not be permanent. I can’t quite recall. The ones in the gold tubes are pigmented and show up with one or two swipes. If you have very dry lips, try the Dior Serum de Rouge. It’s got these hydrating properties and helps me when I have dry lips.

Oh I’ve tried without lipbalm and quite pigmented. Dior serum de rouge ? Is it long lasting too ? It’s quite hard to find lipstick that long last but also moisturizing.. Maybe you can recommend some brand from your experience, Paris ?
Thank you very much..^^

You could check out some of my earlier reviews on Serum de Rouge – Crimson and Peach. It isn’t as long lasting. Few long lasting lipsticks are moisturizing due to the formula. It has to be drier in order to stick and last longer. More moisturizing lipsticks don’t last as long. Also try Chanel Rouge Coco or Rouge Dior for long lasting but not too drying formula. Or Guerlain Rouge G or Rouge Automatique.

Yep! I started applying CARMEX lip balm twice a day- once in the morning and once in the night. I must say it worked a treat! but then I lost it 🙁 and because I used it so much my lips couldn’t cope with the dryness and I have very dry lips at the moment (even worse- I have a cold too 🙁 ) Anyone using lip balm follow this golden tip- lip balms seal in moisture so NEVER apply to dry lips- wet your lips and pat dry with some tissue then apply, It soothes my lips much more!!!

After giving away 4 lip balms to my sister, I still have 32 left with me! I love collecting tinted lip balms, lip butters and I am a huge junkie! I slather them on before bed every single night on and around my lips and apply it everytime I grab my lipstick. Lip balms really moisturize my lips before I reach out to lipsticks. However, I really struggle to finish them off and have now collected quite a lot of them! Need to finish them before I splurge on more *yikes*
I am wayyy too late to comment on this post but found it while I was looking for new lip balms to try.
